Letter of authority

Version of 29 October 2026 · Nationwide Energy Consultants, trading as Nationwide Energy

This letter of authority lets Nationwide Energy Consultants, trading as Nationwide Energy ("Nationwide Energy", "we"), get information about your energy supplies on your behalf, so that it can show it to you in the Nationwide Portal at portal.nationwide-energy.co.uk and use it to manage your energy.

It is given by the business named on your portal account ("you"), through the person who accepts it in the portal for you. Nationwide Energy's registered office and company number are [legal to confirm].

1. Who and what it covers

  • You: the business named on your portal account, at the time the letter is accepted and while the account stays open.
  • Your sites: every site, premises and supply point listed against your account in the portal, including any added later.
  • Your meters: every electricity meter point (MPAN) and gas meter point (MPRN) at those sites, and any other meter or supply point you hold, whether or not the supply contract was arranged through Nationwide Energy.

The portal shows the current list of sites and meters. If a site or meter is missing, tell your account manager; this letter still covers it.

2. What you authorise

You authorise Nationwide Energy to ask for, obtain and receive the following information, for all your meters and supply points:

  1. Meter and consumption data: half-hourly data, daily and monthly readings, meter reads, register reads, maximum demand and capacity figures, and whether each reading is actual or estimated.
  2. Meter technical details: meter serial numbers, meter type, profile class, measurement class, settlement status, communications status, and who the meter operator and data services are.
  3. Contract and billing information: your supplier, contract start and end dates, rates and standing charges, bills, statements, credit notes, account balances, payment history and any back-billing.
  4. Change of tenancy information: notices and details about you moving into or out of a site, so that we can act on change of tenancy notifications (section 4).

You authorise us to get that information from any of these, now or in future:

  • your current and previous energy suppliers
  • meter operators and metering services (advanced, smart and traditional)
  • data collectors and data services, including Advanced Data Services and Smart Data Services under market-wide half-hourly settlement
  • data aggregators
  • companies that collect smart meter data through the Data Communications Company (DCC) as accredited DCC users, such as n3rgy, IMServ or Hildebrand
  • Elexon and its central data services, including the Smart Data Repository when it opens [legal to confirm]
  • network operators and gas transporters, Xoserve and the electricity and gas industry data services such as ECOES and DES [legal to confirm]

You ask each of them to give us the information as if you had asked for it yourself.

3. Smart meter data

For smart meters (SMETS1 and SMETS2) and advanced meters, the Smart Energy Code needs your explicit consent before a company that is not your supplier or network operator collects the data. By accepting this letter you give that consent, and we tell you here:

  • What data: half-hourly consumption (and export, where there is any) and meter readings.
  • Which periods: up to the previous 13 months held on the meter, the previous 12 months held by your supplier, and then data as it is recorded, at half-hourly detail, for as long as this letter is in force.
  • What for: showing your consumption in the portal, checking your bills, forecasting and budgeting, buying energy for you, finding faults and waste, and reporting to you.
  • How to withdraw: see section 6. Withdrawing consent stops new smart data collection; it doesn't delete what was collected before [legal to confirm].

We will remind you of this consent at least once a year [legal to confirm the interval].

4. Change of tenancy

You authorise Nationwide Energy to receive change of tenancy notifications for your sites, and to act on them for you: to tell suppliers and agents that you are moving in or out, to give and receive opening and closing readings, and to ask for the supply to be registered correctly. We act on what you or your supplier tell us, and confirm with you before anything goes to a supplier that would change who pays for the supply [legal to confirm].

5. What this letter does not do

  • It doesn't let us sign a supply contract, change your supplier, agree prices or commit you to any payment. Those always need your separate agreement [legal to confirm whether a separate contracting authority is needed for purchasing clients].
  • It doesn't move responsibility for your bills to us. You stay the supplier's customer.
  • It doesn't let us share your information with anyone other than the parties in section 2 and the service providers named in the portal's privacy notice, except where the law requires.

6. How long it lasts, and how to withdraw it

  • It starts when it is accepted in the portal.
  • It lasts while your portal account is open, and for 90 days after the account closes so that we can finish work in progress: final bills, closing readings and any claims we are pursuing for you [legal to confirm the length of this period].
  • You can withdraw it at any time by emailing your account manager, or [legal to confirm the address for notices]. We stop asking for new information within 5 working days of receiving your notice [legal to confirm], and tell the parties we have been dealing with.
  • If the letter is replaced by a new version, the portal asks your account owner to accept the new version. The previous version stays in force until then.

Some suppliers and data services ask for an LOA on their own form, or one that names specific meters, or one renewed every 6 to 12 months. If they do, we may ask you to sign one; this letter is not replaced by it [legal to confirm].

7. Your confirmation

By accepting this letter in the portal, the person accepting confirms that:

  • they are authorised to give this authority for the business named on the portal account
  • the portal records their name, their job title as they type it, the date and time, and the device and browser they used, as the record that the letter was given.

A copy of this letter, and the record of who accepted it and when, is available from your account manager at any time.
